Cranberry Orange Glazed Ham

Enjoy your Cranberry Orange Glazed Ham, a perfect centerpiece for a festive Christmas meal

Ingredients:

For the Ham:

  • 1 bone-in ham (about 8-10 pounds)
  • 1 cup cranberry juice
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • Whole cloves (for decoration, optional)

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup whole cranberry sauce
  • 1/4 cup orange marmalade
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ham:
    • Preheat your oven according to the ham package instructions.
    • Place the ham in a roasting pan with the fat side up. If the ham has a rind, score it in a diamond pattern.
    • In a saucepan, combine cranberry juice, orange juice, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, ground cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  2. Glaze the Ham:
    • Brush the ham with the prepared glaze, ensuring it covers the entire surface.
    • If you like, insert whole cloves into the scored intersections of the ham for decoration.
  3. Bake the Ham:
    • Bake the ham in the preheated oven, basting with the glaze every 30 minutes.
    • Follow the cooking instructions on the ham packaging. For an average-sized ham, it may take about 15-20 minutes per pound.
  4. Prepare the Cranberry Orange Glaze:
    • In a small saucepan, combine whole cranberry sauce, orange marmalade, Dijon mustard, and brown sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until well combined and heated through.
  5. Apply the Final Glaze:
    • During the last 30 minutes of baking, brush the ham with the cranberry orange glaze for a final time.
  6. Check for Doneness:
    • The ham is done when it reaches the recommended internal temperature (usually 140°F or as indicated on the packaging).
  7. Rest and Serve:
    • Allow the ham to rest for about 15-20 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute, keeping the meat moist.
    • Carve and serve the ham slices with additional glaze on the side.
