What to do on the First Sunday of Advent

The First Sunday of Advent marks the beginning of the Advent season, a time of preparation and anticipation for Christmas in Christian traditions.

The First Sunday of Advent marks the beginning of the Advent season, a time of preparation and anticipation for Christmas in Christian traditions. What would you do?

Light up your life, let’s get started with Christmas!

On the First Sunday of Advent, Christians start lighting their Advent wreaths.

Many churches and households have an Advent wreath with four candles, often three purple or blue candles and one pink or white candle. On the first Sunday of Advent, one of the purple candles is lit to symbolize hope or expectation. Each subsequent Sunday, an additional candle is lit until all four are burning by Christmas.

And of course you should start illuminating your house. And you know why? The lights will help Santa to find your house on Christmas Eve! It is a also a good practice to add up lights every sunday – this way you remind your friends, families, and beloved that Christmas is coming closer and they still need to buy gifts for you! Yes, you see it like a countdown for your joy! 🙂 So don’t forget: Light up your life!

Santa initiates the last preparation phase for Christmas Eve.

It’s when Santa Claus, after working so hard with his busy team of elves, gets ready for his amazing journey. He’s getting his magical sleigh all packed up with wonderful gifts for kids all around the world. As the stars twinkle in the sky, Santa checks his list—twice, of course—to make sure he doesn’t miss anyone who’s been good and kind throughout the year.

A Short Prayer & Reflection

Some individuals or families use the time of Advent for daily devotions, readings, or reflections to spiritually prepare for Christmas. Churches often hold special services or liturgies on the First Sunday of Advent, focusing on themes of hope or anticipation. Some churches begin Advent with a procession.

The fun part: Food!

Yes, for some of us this might be the funniest part.

While there isn’t a universally recognized dish specifically tied to the First Advent, many families begin embracing flavors and foods associated with the holiday season during this time, setting the culinary tone for the weeks leading up to Christmas. It’s a time when people might start preparing and enjoying dishes that evoke warmth, coziness, and the spirit of the holidays.

Take a look to our recipes section and i am sure you will find something appealing. However, i would recommend one of the best known Advent traditions on this day: stir up fruitcakes or Christmas puddings, to symbolize the fact that our hearts need to be “stirred up” to receive the Lord at Christmas and at His second coming.

The countdown for gifts
for your beloved starts.

But on the other hand, time is running to get gifts for your family, friends and beloved. We collected some ideas in our Gifts section.
